Bissell Brothers

Bissell Brothers is located at 38 Resurgam Pl, Portland, ME Founded in 2013 by brothers Noah and Peter Bissell, this gorgeous taproom is set in a huge warehouse style space offers indoor and outdoor seating with a vibe that’s equal parts industrial and inviting. One side of the patio is 21+ only, which is a plus for those who want to enjoy a kid free brewery.

We grabbed a seat out front, facing the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, which made for a surprisingly quiet start to the afternoon. But it didn’t stay that way for long—the crowd picked up quickly, and the atmosphere buzzed with good energy.

I had their flagship beer, The Substance Ale, which is a dank, hop-forward New England IPA that was easily a quick drink on a hot summers day. Beyond The Substance, we tried fan favorites like:

• Swish – a juicy Double IPA

• Bravura - American Brown Ale with toasted malt and caramel notes

• Nothing Gold - Double IPA with grapefruit, mango, and pine

  
  

🍗 What We Ate

We split an order of their absolutely delicious wings, and they were hands-down some of the best I’ve tasted:

• 🧄 Garlic & Parmesan – Roasted garlic butter, aged parmesan, lemon zest, and black pepper

• 🔥 Hot Dusted – A smoky, spicy dry rub that packed heat without overpowering

  
  

The wings came with veggie sticks and a choice of dipping sauce (we went with blue cheese), and the flavors were bold, layered, and perfectly paired with the beers

The staff was very friendly and was more than happy to chat with you, answer any questions you had and direct you in any part of the facility.

Overall the visit was more than we expected and cannot wait to make another trip up to Portland and yes, I’ll be ordering those wings again!

Remember I will never tell you not to go somewhere, I will always tell you to go and make your own opinion and memories.
