Rockingham Brewery Derry, NH VS. Rockingham Brewery West Newport, NH

Rockingham Brewery Showdown: Newport vs Derry

On our latest brewery hop through New Hampshire we made two stops at Rockingham Brewery’s locations. The first was Rockingham Brewery West at 300 Sunapee Street in Newport. Although the space—housed in a former bank—offered fantastic patio seating and clever utilization of the area, the overall experience left us disappointed.

Rockingham Brewery West (Newport)

The setting in a repurposed bank is immediately captivating. Original drive through teller windows, and a tucked-away patio create a unique tasting room. Outdoor seating thrives in summer, making it a perfect spot for sunshine sips.

  • Ambiance

    • Historic bank interior with vault accents

    • Spacious outdoor patio

    • First impression felt distant; staff seemed preoccupied

  • Beer Highlights

    • Red ale that tasted more like a malt-forward amber

    • Flight of four, only one standout pour which was the porter

    • Special green beer for seasonal fun

  • Community Vibe

  • Patrons warmly welcomed us and let us pet their huge Labrador retrievers. Yes, dogs are welcome inside and out

  • Despite friendly guests, we felt ignored by the beertender

Rockingham Brewery (Derry)

A short drive southeast brings you to their flagship at 1 Corporate Park Drive in Derry. Here the energy is high, the beers are served cold, and the beertenders beam with genuine hospitality. Every sip tastes brighter, making it our top pick of the two.

  • Ambiance

    • Modern taproom with open floor plan

    • Plenty of bar seating and communal tables

    • Lively soundtrack that heightens the buzz

  • Beer Highlights

    • Crisp, properly chilled pours

    • Flight featuring balanced pale ale, rich stout, and seasonal brews

    • Beer quality consistently fresh

  • Community Vibe

  • Beertenders who engage with every guest

  • Events calendar packed with food trucks and live music

Final Thoughts and Travel Tips

If you have time for only one Rockingham Brewery stop, head to Derry. The beer is reliably top-notch, the staff makes you feel at home, and the events calendar brings extra flair. Newport can still be a great detour if you love history and want a quieter afternoon on a sunlit patio.

Remember I will never tell you not to go somewhere, I will always tell you to go and make your own opinion and memories.

Cheers 🍻
